Jane Bower
St. Luke’s, St. Albans

My style of painting is Expressionist Abstract.  The inspiration for my art comes primarily from scripture readings and sermons I hear at out weekly services.  Sometimes I write or sketch ideas about specific words, stories, or concepts I feel need further exploration through shape and color, sometimes I paint as meditations for healing.  In using many layers of paint with symbolic colors, illness and pain are released and transformed and when I look at the completed painting, only peace remains.  I am happiest with my art when I allow it to lead me.

Easter Story

Easter Story, Watercolor, 11.5”h 14/5”w, Value/Price: $425.00
This painting represents Good Friday through Easter morning.
The three trees symbolize the three crosses of the Crucifixion,
the dark purple symbolizes the empty tomb,
and the bright yellow in the sky symbolizes the son and new life.

I See You

I See You!, Watercolor and acrylic, 19” h 22” w, Value/Price: $425.00
This is my interpretation of a photograph of the repaired detached retina in my left eye.
My surgeon was able to restore some of my vision
and I painted this as a way to further the healing and give thanks for the beauty I can see.

Once in a Blue

Once in a Blue, Watercolor, 16” h 20” w, Value/Price: $425.00
As a teenager I had a life-changing encounter on a moonlit evening
while on a Youth Group retreat. This painting is an attempt to capture that experience.
The moon symbolizes the Light in darkness that helps guide one home.
